The calories burn during an Enduro MTB race can be intense. Typically there are 3-6 timed sections where you’ll be pushing full gas (and burning up lots of your energy stores), but then in between that, time on the bike riding between the stages can amount to 4-6 hours, some times over multiple days.
Calorie burn per day can be up near 4oookcal, therefore keeping on top of calorie intake with energy bars and gels during the race is more important that most people care to imagine. Not only is it important for maintaining performance but also concentration.
Let’s not forget hydration too, this should be a key consideration as let’s face it things can get pretty sweaty under all the kit and body armour. Sweating can lead to dehydration, and dehydration can lead to poor performance and the dreaded camp!
