HOW DO I USE THIS PACK

 

DAY BEFORE

Make up one Super Carbs Sachet with 500ml of water. We’d advise sipping throughout the day. You can use the Duo Bar as an afternoon snack to help keep your energy levels topped up. It’s important to get to the start line of the marathon with your carbohydrate stores full, this is achieved by reducing the amount of exercise and upping your intake of high carb food and drinks. You don’t need to necessarily eat lots more, as our body can only store a limited amount of carbohydrates. But by choosing high carb options, this should naturally help you ‘Carb Load’.

Interchange your Super Carbs drink with a bottle of our Hydro Tab electrolyte drink. Again a very important part of your marathon performance is hydration; this is another area that is key to get right before the start.

 

RACE DAY

Grab another Super Carbs sachet with 500ml of water. Drink half a bottle with your breakfast, and the other half 30 minutes before the marathon. We’d also advised sipping on a bottle of Hydro Tabs too, to ensure you are fully hydrated for the start.

Aim to take on one Super Gel every 6km. The time between each gel will be different depending on the pace you’re running and the time you’re trying to hit. We’d advise taking advantage of the water stations from the start. Sipping little and often is always best,  and if you can time your gel intake as you approach a water station, fluid can aid the digestion of the gel and you can also disguard your rubbish!

  • 4 Hour Runer= 1 x Super Gel every 35 minutes
  • 3:30 Hour Runner = 1 x Super Gel every 30 minutes
  • 3 Hour Runner = 1 x Super Gel every 25 minutes.
  • 2:30 Hour Runner = 1 x Super Gel every 20 minutes

Is your goal time over 4 hours?

We’d advise taking some fluid with you whilst you run and our Super Carbs Energy Drink is the a perfect choice. Sipping on this can help you keep on top of energy and hydration. You may need to add a few more sachets to this bundle, and you can find them here.

Want to add a caffeine boost?

If using caffeine works for you we’d advise substituting your second from last Super Gel for one of Super Gel+. This will still give you the needed 40g of carbohydrates with added 75mg of caffeine. Add some to your basket here.

 

POST RACE

Recovery after such a tough event is really important (even if you don’t plan to do one again any time soon!!). Once you’ve finished we’d advise reaching for the OTE Anytime Protein Bar and getting your first hit of protein in to kick start recovery. Then it’s worth getting back on sipping the Hydro Tabs and rehydration is a very important part of recovery and getting you back to feeling like normal in the coming hours and days.
